Sunny Spain finally!

We have had two wonderful sunny days in Spain in a region called Palencia. Yesterday we left our gîte early, 7 a.m. before the sun had come up above the mountains in the east. We were climbing up to the Meseta de Mosteleras and as we climbed the sun came up behind us, it was wonderful to feel the heat on our backs as we went up. A meseta is a plateau on a mountain or hill. This one is narrow and it took us 40 minutes to climb to the top and 30 minutes to walk across and back down. This is also an agricultural area, lots of large fields of hay, wheat and barley; of course poppies everywhere. However, there is more life in the villages and in the fields. We saw many farmers on tractors that waved to us along the way.

A nice cool breeze kept the day good for walking and the sun lifted our spirits. We walked the last 5 km of our destination along the Canal de Castilla. It is an irrigation canal with no recreation boats on it. As is the case around water, there were lots of birds singing, frogs croaking and there were water lilies. It was a good way to finish our day arriving in Fromista after walking 25 km. A good day overall!

Today with the sun shining again, we walked the path along a road, a little less interesting than yesterday, but the sun does wonders to the enjoyment of our day. We are in Carrión de los Condes tonight at the Monastère Nuestra Señora de Belén. These places are little jewels along the way, clean, real sheets (no sleeping bag required) and supper and breakfast included all for 23 euros!

No pictures today, can't use my USB gizmo on this computer.
