Galicia - the last region of our trek!

We have walked the last three days in the region called Galicia. It is an extremely pretty area, many small villages of stone houses and farms. We walked our last major climb on Sunday up to the village of O Cebreirro. It was a wonderful climb, in many ways harder than other major climbs we did (the Pyrennées and the climb to "la Croix de fer") and it had its own beauty. The beginning of the climb was in a forest and the path was of slate and pebbles. The second part was much more open, steeper and allowed us to see breath-taking vistas. It was quite extraordinary.

The village of O Cebreirro is obviously a tourist attraction and it has been quite tastefully renovated. Pilgrims were not the only visitors. It was surprising how cool it was with a wonderful wind. Arlette and I had heard that there was a webcam in the village and when we found it, we did quite a dance in front of it. Both my parents and some of her family saw us in miniscule on the web! We had of course, made arrangements before to allow them to watch on the web. If you would like to see the image they saw, go to http://pelerine.blogspot.com/ .

The trek down the mountain was much easier than previous ones. We began the day in the sun and we could see the clouds and fog below us. As we walked we eventually reached the fog and finished in the clouds; a wierd feeling!

Our pilgrimage is almost at its end, 5 more days before we reach Santiago on Sunday June 29th. In many ways I will be sad to see the end but I can't wait to get back home with my husband, family and friends!
